Job purpose
The Sanitation Manager is responsible for ensuring that the Sanitation department runs smoothly and efficiently, for daily housekeeping and line cleans. They will oversee the sanitation workers for their assigned location and make sure that they are performing their duties correctly. They will also keep track of the supplies and equipment used by the department and make sure that everything is in good working order.
Duties and Responsibilities
The associate’s primary functions and responsibilities are as follows:
- Directly responsible for monitoring day-to-day responsibilities of sanitarians (all shifts) for housekeeping, infrastructure, and equipment cleans.
- Provide guidance and leadership to develop a high-performance team, in addition to providing support to other teams in their efforts to meet the cleanliness standards in their areas.
- Maintain a sound working relationship with other departments to ensure no interruption in business and ensure constant communication with all levels of management regarding sanitation issues.
- Maintain and ensure the safety of all employees through proper training and enforcement of all company policies, procedures and processes.
- Provide training to all employees on chemical safety.
- Coach and provide sanitation team with tools and resources to assist team members on skill development and growth.
- Determine line cleaning schedule including but not limited to Equipment, framework, ovens etc as per Master Cleaning Schedule.
- Maintain the Master Cleaning Schedule.
- Determine number of workers required for each clean.
- Coordinate with Maintenance, Production and Scheduling for line cleans.
- Work in conjunction with Quality supervisor and department to meet environmental program including but not limited to Equipment swabs, Listeria and Salmonella.
- Notify QA for visual inspection/ ATP swab, when required.
- Maintain Chemical and supplies Inventory.
- Scheduling/attendance of Sanitation staff.
- Creating SRF/ERF as required.
- Work in conjunction with other departments on daily and weekly sanitation tasks Facilitate corrective actions related to pest prevention and sanitation Facilitate Spills and leaks policy.
- Provide training to the Sanitarians on proper sanitation practices.
- Partner with operations departments to meet line clean expectations.
- Ensure that cleaning tasks are completed by following safety protocols in place.
- Report any problems or concerns to Senior Sanitation Manager in timely manner.
- Approve the vacation requests.
- Carry out incident, accident and non-conformity investigations and associated reporting and action closure.
- Issue disciplinary action when needed.
- Performs other task/duties as assigned or required.
- Follow Health and Safety rules and regulations.
- Must follow Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety, and Food Defense guidelines.
- Comply with all Company policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- College Diploma or minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in food industry sanitation
- Two to three years of supervisory experience in a food manufacturing or consumer product industry
- Additional training, degree and/or related experience desired
- Previous sanitation experience and physical ability to work in the production environment.
- Computer skills Microsoft Office applications
- Strong oral and written communication skills with all levels of the plant, organization, outside vendors, and customers.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be flexible to work Overtime and On Call.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, the ability to lead and motivate a team, and knowledge of sanitation best practices.
- Partner with and help coordinate cleaning activities of all departments.
- Coach sanitation workers on job performance, expectations, and safety issues.
- Performs other task/duties as assigned or required.
- Must be self-starting.
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to lift, up to 50 lbs.
- Great attention to detail with accuracy.
- Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Working conditions
- Work indoors.
- May be exposed to hot temperatures from ovens.
- May work close to others, usually within a few feet.
- Compliant with ventilation, cleanliness, space, lighting, and temperature.
Physical requirements
- Standing, sitting, or kneeling involved.
- May repeat the same movement.
- Often wear safety equipment such as gloves, hair nets, steel toed safety shoes/boots and beard nets.
- Ability to bend or twist their body.
- Must be able to lift, up to 50lbs.
- Able to work from heights.
