Job purpose

Responsible a variety of tasks relating to setting up and maintaining electrical infrastructure. The job will involve installing electrical wiring in buildings and poles, troubleshooting malfunctions and blackouts, and repairing equipment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The associate’s primary functions and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Modify, maintain, or repair electrical, electronic, or mechanical components, equipment, or systems to ensure proper functioning.
  • Install or program computer hardware or machine or instrumentation software in microprocessor-based systems.
  • Consult with mechanics to ensure that electromechanical equipment or systems meet design specifications.
  • Routine preventative maintenance of high-speed production equipment
  • Troubleshooting and repair manufacturing and production equipment to minimize line downtime and optimize production quality and efficiencies.
  • Carry out PLC troubleshooting and programming changes as required.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects and complete assigned work orders according to PM schedules to improve equipment efficiency, reliability, and safety.
  • Involve with equipment installations and modifications as required.
  • Work in a safe manner ensuring all safety procedures are followed ensuring compliance with legislation and technical standards.
  • Report any issues to maintenance planning coordinator immediately.
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with health and safety and housekeeping practices and use of personal protective equipment.
  • Adhere to food safety and GMP requirements while performing maintenance tasks to ensure safety and quality.
  • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
  • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
  • Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
  • Place conduit (pipes or tubing) inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes.
  • Work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Electric and automation troubleshooting and installation.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
  • Follow Health and Safety rules and regulations.
  • Must follow Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety, and Food Defense guidelines.
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Must hold one of the two primary electrician licenses in Ontario: a Construction and Maintenance (C&M) 309A license or an Industrial Electrician 442A
  • Proven experience as an electrician
  • Experience in industrial and/or commercial electrical systems
  • Demonstrable ability to use electrical and hand tools (e.g., wire strippers, voltmeter etc.) and electrical drawings and blueprints.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and legal regulations and guidelines
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Strong PLC programming knowledge required
  • Excellent physical condition and flexibility to work long shifts and overnight.
  • Diploma in relevant vocational training or successfully completed apprenticeship as an electrician.
  • Must hold a valid license to practice profession.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Working conditions

  • Work indoors.
  • May be exposed to hot temperatures from ovens.
  • May work close to others, usually within a few feet.
  • Compliant with ventilation, cleanliness, space, lighting, and temperature.

Physical requirements

  • Standing involved.
  • May repeat the same movement.
  • Often wear safety equipment such as gloves, hair nets, steel toed safety shoes/boots and beard nets.
  • Ability to bend or twist their body.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
